Things can change in an instant.
You think you have all the time in the world to make that phone call, to take the time to go and visit a little longer, to give that extra hug, or to say, "I love you," just one more time.
When you least expect it, you blink and then the unthinkable happens. The loved one that you planed on spending time with is now gone.
It almost seems unreal as you stand next to their hospital bed, after they have breathed their last breath. You are happy because they are no longer in pain and present with the Lord, however your time with them will be no more.
Our family has walked through a dark valley over these past few weeks. My mother-in-law Shirley Miller, had been sick with some very serious health issues and spent over a week in the ICU trying to recover and heal. Unfortunately on June 25th, 2017, my mother-in-law passed away, and is now in heaven with the Lord.
My mother-in-law was one of the kindest and most tender hearted individuals that I have ever met. She loved the Lord with all her heart and always put others before herself. I could only hope to be half the mother that she was.
“Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with the land the Lord your God is giving you." Deuteronomy 5:16
As I think back over what's happened these past few weeks, there is one thing above all else that I have learned. Never take a single moment for granted.
Enjoy to the fullest each and every second that you can spend with family and friends. Be fully in the moment, love well, be kind, and put any disagreements behind you.
Time is such a precious commodity, one that we can never get back again. Make sure you use your time well, and for what's most important in your life. We only get one chance at this gift of life we've been given.

ReplyDeleteMy uncle passed away on June 24th, and I'm left with many of the same feelings. We could never possibly have enough time to invest our all in everyone we love, but we can still strive to be more aware of how fleeting life is.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about the passing of your mother-in-law, but rejoice with you that she is now in the presence of the Savior. It sounds like she left a beautiful legacy. Thank you for sharing.
