He's in Complete Control

By: Joanne Viola

Last summer we had so much rain, our grass was as green and lush as a golf course. It was the best grass we ever have had.

This year, not even close.

Our grass is brown, burnt out and like straw. We are in drought conditions and even if it we were to get a good drenching, the grass probably would not come back this year. We can make every effort to water but the drought is out of our control.

Ever notice how much we all desire control? We want to be in control of our lives. Some want to be in control of others.

According to dictionary.com, control means  “to exercise restraint or direction over; dominate; or command.”

There is only One who has complete control, and that is God.

The Lord has established His throne in the heavens, and His sovereignty rules over all.”
(Psalm 103:19, NASB)

Let’s clarify just what He has complete and unlimited control over.

For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself."
(Philippians 3:20-21, NASB)

And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power.
(Hebrews 1:3, NASB)

All things are created by Him and He is sovereign over all things. He is working to put everything as it should be, under and around Him. For now, He holds everything together by His powerful words.

Everything is under His control, and He sustains everything.

There is not a single thing that we can face in any given day that is not in His control. He is not guessing. He never thinks He should have gone with Plan B. He never makes a mistake.

He is always at work and always working it out.

Whatever each of us is facing today is completely under His control. May that truth bring us peace today.

Is there some area of your life which you are trying to maintain control over? What can you do to release it all into the hands of the One who is sovereign over all?

  1. This is such a vital truth to remember. Some things may seem out of control in the world, but God knows what He is doing and why He allows what He does.

    1. Barbara, may we continue to remind ourselves that the Lord knows and trust Him.

  2. Control is something I've been reading a lot about (and struggling with) lately. It is comforting to remember that even when it feels out of control to us it is not to God.

    1. Lesley, may we constantly remind ourselves that 1) God is the only One in control and 2) He never loses control. In these truths, He will fill us with His peace.
