The God Who Calls...Even Our Children

"My bones were not hidden from you when I was made in secret, when I was formed in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw me when I was formless; all my days were written in your book and planned before a single one of them began."

~Psalm 139:15-16

I was lamenting to someone last week that as a military wife, I sometimes feel a lot of guilt. My husband chose this life, and I chose this life when I chose my husband, but our kiddos did not choose this life.

To which this lady gently replied, “They may not have chosen it, but God chose them for this task. And you can rest in that.”

In that moment, it was as if all the weight of mommy guilt I had been carrying around for months that no comment and no thought seemed to get rid of finally just melted away.

It’s true! Our kids didn’t choose the military life, but the Lord - Who is the best Parent around! - did choose them for this task and will be with them every moment of it as their Heavenly Father.

You may not be living the life of a military wife with all its deployments and TDYs, but chances are there is something in your life that you have chosen for your family that you feel guilty about - maybe a move, a church change, or something else. Whatever it is, you feel guilty because your kids didn’t choose it and yet they are still impacted by it.

May I encourage your heart today? Your children may not have been able to make the choice, but the Lord chose them for this mission. You can rest assured that every day of their lives were written in His book before a single one of them came to be (Psalm 139). And He will be with them through every single one of them. 💕

  1. This is beautiful encouragement, Rebekah, for every parent with children whether young or grown. May we remember that we are not the ones who ordained their days but God, and He will see them through all of their days. Blessings!
