A Prayer of Hope in the New Year

By: Sarah Geringer

Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying. Romans 12:12 NLT

In my last post for 2020 here, I wrote a prayer of Christmas hope for us. In this new year, especially in the difficult events in America this first week of 2021, I think we need another infusion of hope.

So, here's another prayer to help us choose hope in this new year. May it inspire you to keep on praying throughout the coming days, weeks and months of 2021.

Heavenly Father,

We take joy in finding hope in you,

no matter what our world looks like today.

We need a fresh infusion of hope this new year.

Our hearts are hurting over the strife we've seen

already in this first week of 2021.

Yet you invite us into this new year

where you will walk beside us

every day, leading us beside the still waters

we can always find in your presence.

Replace the discouragement we feel

with the hope that springs up

as the Holy Spirit moves in our hearts,

stirring peace and joy up even in dark times.

We rejoice that you store hope for us

in the throne of heaven,

and we can boldly approach you in prayer

anytime we need more hope.

This new year, may we remember

that you are the God of evergreen hope

which rises anew with each morning,

steadfast as the sunrise

and with us every sunset.

May we look forward

to the days, weeks and months ahead

with hope deep in our hearts,

knowing you have already won the victory

for us as the Lord of Hope.

In Jesus' Name,

Amen.
