Put On. Take Up.

By: Jenifer Metzger

Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and by His
vast strength. Put on the full armor of God so that
you can stand against the schemes of the devil. For
our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but
against the rulers, against the authorities, against
the cosmic powers of this darkness, against evil,
spiritual forces in the heavens. For this reason
take up the full armor of God, so that you may be
able to resist in the evil day, and having prepared
everything, to take your stand. Stand, therefore,
with truth like belt around your waist, righteousness
like armor on your chest, and your feet sandaled
with readiness for the gospel of peace. In every
situation take up the shield of faith with which
you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the
evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the
sword of the Spirit — which is the word of God.
Pray at all times in the Spirit with every prayer
and request, and stay alert with all
perseverance and intercession for all the saints.
Ephesians‬ ‭6:10

If you are following along with the Woman to Woman Bible reading plan, you know that we finished Ephesians today. This is one of my favorite books of the Bible. I especially love chapter 6, the armor of God. Anytime I read this chapter or do a study of the armor, I get so excited.

The armor of God is God literally promising to care for us. He is telling us exactly what we need to do to be a Christian. He clearly lays it out. But, it’s not enough to just read it and love it. God added some keywords in there that we must catch. These keywords are action words. This tells us what we must do.

Verse 11 says to “put on.”  Verse 13 says to “take up.” These are words telling us to do something. We read about the belt of truth, righteousness like armor, sandals of readiness, shield of faith, helmet of salvation, sword of the Spirit, and prayer. 7 things to help us live a Christian life and defeat the enemy. But they are all things we must daily put on and take up.

It’s like having a really good, expensive anti-aging cream. It helps fine lines and prevents wrinkles. But it’s not enough to just read about it and buy it. We must actually put it on. It won’t do anything sitting in the jar unopened.

Let’s be women who daily put on and take up the armor of God so that we can live a life God called us to and fight the enemy trying to stop us.

It's time for Share A Link Wednesday! Each Wednesday we invite you to leave a link to your latest blog post in the comments. We still desire to connect women of God with one another and encourage each other in Christ. So grab a cup of coffee or glass of sweet tea, sit back and visit a few blogs. Be encouraged and share your own stories.

  1. Second post I've read today about the armor of God. :) I think God is trying to tell me something—PUT ON THAT ARMOR!

  2. There seems to be a theme going on right now about living everyday intentionally and I think part of that is putting on the armor of God. Thanks so much for sharing! I wrote this week on loving our spouse when they are in a bad mood, http://keepingthetiethatbinds.com/2020/02/26/loving-your-spouse-when-they-are-in-a-bad-mood/
