This Is How We Fight

By: Jenifer Metzger

To console those who mourn in Zion,
To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”
Isaiah 61:3

We all face battles. We all face trials. It is a pretty much a guarantee in this life to face the heaviness, pain, and mourning.

The question isn't if we will face it, the question is how we will face it. In Michael W. Smith's new song, Surrounded, he tells us the how to facing battles and he gets it straight from the Word of God: put on the garment of praise.

When battles come your way, don't retreat, don't shove it down, don't ignore it! Instead, put on a garment of praise and worship! That is how we fight, in prayer and worship.

In Surrounded, we are also reminded when it feels like the troubles of life and the enemy is surrounding us on every side, we are, in fact, surrounded by God Himself.

Friends, fight like the warrior you are. Fight like God intended, through prayer and worship. This is how we fight.
