My Hiding Place

By: Jenifer Metzger

Do you ever have days where you just want to hide? I ask with my own hand raised high. Just for a few moments. Just long enough to catch my breath.

I typically dislike being alone. I don't even like to go to the grocery store alone, I hate it in fact. Yet there are times when I feel like I just want to hide. I've even come to adore the quiet moments early in the morning before the house stirs awake, watching the sun rise from beyond my window as God and I talk. That hiding place alone with my Master.

Then there are the times my soul is weary, grieved or overwhelmed. In those times I desperately seek that hiding place. Whether it's in my bedroom with a door closed, the quiet of the car, or literally a few moments with my head stuck in the refrigerator as I pull out a water bottle.

No matter what the case, I know what, or Who, my hiding place. It's my Father. It's His Word. It's His whispers that I am His. It's his hand holding me up when I want to collapse. It's God alone.

You are my hiding place and my shield;
I hope in Your word.
Psalm 119:114

Are you stressed or tired, overwhelmed or afraid, alone or anxious? Find your hiding place. He is right there waiting to hold you my friend.
