What Every Bride Needs To Know

By: Jenifer Metzger season!

Many brides choose to marry in the months of May and June. With such beautiful weather and flowers blooming, it's perfect wedding weather.

The list of tasks to complete before a wedding is crazy long. You have attendants to choose, location, minister, music, flowers, bridesmaid dresses, groomsmen attire, cake, food, punch, candles, guest book, the flower girl, the ring bearer, invitations, announcements, engagement photos, photographer, decorations, table centerpieces, plates and such for the reception, where to go on the honeymoon, shoes, mother of the bride/groom dresses, rings, and of course, the dress! Planning a wedding is lot of work. Important work. Work a bride loves.

What every bride needs to know. #marriage #bride #groom #wedding

But there is something even more important than planning a wedding. Planning the marriage.

So many brides and grooms focus intently on the wedding and honeymoon, but don't give much attention the marriage. To the joining of two completely different worlds.

When two people marry, they are joining two lives, two different families, two different opinions, two different schedules, two different everything. And it is not always easy.

A couple should spend even more time focusing on the marriage than the do the wedding. Yes the wedding is important. All those little details are memories waiting to happen. But the wedding lasts a day. The marriage lasts a lifetime.

Soon-to-be husbands and wives need to discuss important issues. Do they want kids and how many? Will they homeschool, private school or public school? Where do they want to be in 5 years, 10 years, etc? What are important issues they want to stand firm on? How will they handle holidays? How will they discipline children? How will they handle finances? How do they want to divide up household duties?

These may not seem like big issues in light of the wedding. Or the couple may think these issues will just naturally fall into place. But friend, I promise you, they are important and need to be discussed. A couple should be on the same page before the wedding. These things will sneak up on you in 2 years or even in 10 years and if you don't already have a plan in place, there will be dissension.

Are you getting married soon? Do you know someone who is? Spend some time focusing on and planning the marriage even before you plan the wedding.

If you are married, what other advice would you give a couple planning to be married?
