Character of God...Jehovah Rophe

by Debi Baker

It's been 400 years of slavery in Egypt!  They had seen it all...plague after plague, the death of the first born, including the livestock...and finally, Pharaoh lets them go.  They are finally free!!

The Israelites have now been free for 3 days and there has been no water.  Moses prayed and as is His nature, God provides water.  He also reveals more of His character to the chosen ones.  In Exodus 15:26 GN God says, "26...If you will obey me completely by doing what I consider right and by keeping my commands, I will not punish you with any of the diseases that I brought on the Egyptians.  I am the Lord, the one who heals you."

Have you ever wondered what was going through the minds of the Israelites during this time.  Here they are, finally free, and as they are walking around, they begin to remember the plagues.  I'm thinking that they were probably a little concerned.  I mean, they had seen God do some pretty amazing things...things that were a little scary.  Do you think they may have been thinking He might extend some of those things to them?  If I had been in their shoes, I probably would have been a little concerned about that.  But then, God tells them...obey what I say, keep my commands.  If you do that, I won't bring upon you those horrific events that you have witnessed in Egypt!  He says that He is the God who heals!!

How comforting to know that God doesn't want to bring catastrophe on us.  And we are the ones that control whether or not He does!  It's simple...obey the instruction of the Lord, keep His commands and then we will not be punished!  He will heal us!

Jehovah Rophe...The Lord, our healer!  What a blessing to know that He wants to and is willing to heal us.  Are you in need of a healing today...spiritual, physical, emotional...it doesn't matter, He is your Healer!!!  Call to Him, obey His commands and He will Heal you according to His will!!

I am so thankful for our Healer!!
