This Is It!

By: Kasey Johnson

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances;
for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Let me be honest.

I wasn't expecting our "Scripture Sunday" from last month to pose such a challenge in my life. You see, I'm currently learning how to do a new job and let's just say I'm not a fan of starting over.

Have you ever had to start over and leave behind the wonderful feeling of knowing what you're doing and feeling confident? Yeah - it's not my favorite.

The "it" I'm currently dealing with is a necessary evil - it's my job.  I'm struggling to remember that yes, God is faithful and yes, He will take care of my "it" no matter how difficult things become.

To help me accept these statements of truth I'm trying to make sure I do my part and obey scripture. I know God will fulfill His promise - so I'm working on fulfilling mine.

Rejoice always - In order for me to always rejoice, I have to believe that my situation is part of God's will for my life. I can only find joy when I'm able to trust God's leading and that he truly is in control. When I feel like everything is falling apart I can look to the heavens and rejoice!

Pray continually - God created the universe and everything on earth. It is amazing to me that He longs for a relationship with mankind and that He listens to my prayers. The charge to continually pray means I stop thinking so much about myself and start focusing on God and others.

Give thanks - Being thankful is not something that comes naturally in our society. I hope to live a life that focuses on the blessings around me but if I'm being honest I sometimes find myself wishing for something I don't have or can't do. Thanking God for my life and my family helps me keep a spirit of thankfulness.

All of us are dealing with an "it" but no matter how difficult our "it" becomes we can remember the second part of this month's scripture - that "THIS IS IT".

Where you are, what I'm dealing with, it's all part of God's perfect plan for our . The best part of God's will is that it is filtered through the love and sacrifice of Jesus Christ and the Cross.

This month I'm taking the power away from my "it". I'm going to be spending my time and energy rejoicing, praying and thanking God for fulfilling His will in my life.

I pray you'll be able to have the same kind of month. Take this scripture and write it somewhere you'll see it every day. God is on our side, even when it feels like the world is against us. We're living out God's will and He is with us!

I'd love to hear your stories about making it through a rough time of when you were able to rejoice and give thanks even when things weren't going the way you thought they should. Your story will encourage all of us!

  1. Love this!! We've had some health issues in our family; my grandfather, my daughter and my son. This has been my "it." I've re-learned this weekend that in Jesus we have authority and power to claim healing and see it come to pass. This week I'm going to look up scripture regarding this and pray {continually} with authority. Thanks for this wonderful encouragement.
