A Passion For His People

By: Jenifer Metzger

Everywhere we look someone is hurting, angry, disappointed, lonely, sad, physically ill, or simply just needs someone by their side. People need Jesus.

This is where we come in.

We need to reach out to God's people. The non-believers and the believers. Everyone needs to see Jesus with skin on.

For the past few weeks God has been laying on my heart that we need to have a passion for His people. I am continually saying that I am just too busy. Too busy to meet someone for a soda. Too busy to make a phone call (I prefer text or facebook). Too busy to stop by and visit. Too busy to reach out. But sometimes we need to see the needs of those around us and act.

My daughter takes piano lessons right by our church. It's only thirty minutes which really only gives me about twenty to twenty-five minutes free. I normally walk across to the church and work for just a couple minutes or sit and read as I wait. Then a few weeks ago it hit me. Why not meet someone for a soda and chat? It may only be twenty minutes or so, but it is twenty minutes! So I messaged a friend and asked her to join me for at the soda shop the next week. For twenty minutes we had a great time catching up.

There are so many needs around us. Maybe a friend just needs a listening ear or a few minutes out of the house, go for a soda or ice cream cone or just walk around the block once. Those few minutes are important. Maybe a stressed out mom at the grocery store just needs to see an adult face and hear a kind word, smile at her and compliment her little family. That may be the only adult interaction or smile she sees all day. Maybe a neighbor is lonely and just wants to know that someone cares, bake some brownies and tell them God bless and that you are praying for them.

Whatever the need is, see it, be aware, ask God what you can do and do it. Have a passion for His people. It's time to step out of our own bubble, it's time to stop making excuses of being too busy and simply have a passion for His people.

What can you do today to be Jesus with skin on?

It is time for our Woman to Woman Word Filled Wednesday Link Up. We desire to connect women of God with one another and encourage each other in Christ. So grab a cup of coffee, sit back and visit a few blogs. Be encouraged and share your own stories in their comments.

  1. Hi Jenifer, this is a wonderfully practical post. Being Jesus where we can. Not often I'm the first one in a linky, ok, never actually, lol!
    God bless

  2. Wonderful post, Jenifer! It really touched me and brought tears to my eyes. SO true. We become so self-absorbed, claiming our time as our own, forgetting that it is in Him that we live, move, and have our being. All the while, there is a hurting world out there full of people who would give anything for a kind word or a few minutes of someone else's undivided attention. I needed this today and can't thank you enough for the gentle reminder. God bless you!
