The S word....Submission

As I've come to realize the word submission can be a bad word to many women but if you read the Bible at all you will find it not only necessary but ordered by God.

If we can not submit to our husbands how then are we going to submit to God and His good and perfect will for our lives.

Oh I must say, while this is not a bad word in my book it is so so so difficult. I am full of so much pride. Just picture a 5ft 2 girl puffing out her chest, arms crossed, feathers ruffled let no one get past her walls of defense and God forbid I have to submit to anyone, least of all my husband! Yeah...you probably get the point.

About 6 months ago God put it strongly on my heart to start letting my husband drive, but not only that but to encourage his driving...oh girls, let me tell you I'm still failing even after 6 months! My husband is an ok driver, but this girl has to have her control...and by letting someone else take the wheel of a car that is a whole lotta control that I don't have. While we don't actually have control of our lives or anything around us, it sure is nice to think so...isn't it?

I can tell you all day about why I have issues with submission, but lets hear why God says it's good to submit...I encourage you to read over these scriptures today...

The employee, whether male or female, must submit to his or her employer (Colossians 3:22)
The citizen, whether male or female, must submit to the government authority (1 Peter 2:13)
The believer, whether male or female, must submit to spiritual authority (1 Peter 5:5)
The child, whether male or female, must submit to the parent (Ephesians 6:1)
The wife must submit to the leadership of her husband (Ephesians 5:22-23)

"By walking within these divinly ordained roles of submission to legitimate authority, we place ourselves inside the protective covering of the Lord.."

In last week's post we learned that God has made us powerful, He made us good and necessary and gifted, just as He made our male counterparts...but with all that running through our head it's easy to get prideful *ahem* and that's why God says to submit, not only to Him but to our husbands as well...

Now hear me out, I'm not talking the "yes sir, no sir" submission...

I'm talking legitimate submission...talking over every decision before you just up and make it...find out what your husband wants...
Asking your husband to pray for you, praying together as one...
Asking your husband to pray for dinner meals
Letting your husband make the major decisions...when something comes up ask his oppinion and taking his advice. Pray before you go to your husband and ask God to give him wisdom.

Pray and ask God how you, individualy can start to submit to your husbands spiritual authority over your household...I know, believe me I know submission can be hard but God says over and over it's worth it. When He sees you trying, the blessing's of God will rain on your home and we all want the blessings of God on our household don't we?

Submission is a decision...a decision made by you to yield to the people and principls that have been placed in your life as an authority. It's a decision, a concious effort. Some might abuse this authority, some might not accept it, some might not want it...some might not know what to do with it but if you truly pray and ask God to open your eyes to the ways He wants you to submit to your husband and to Him, I know you will be blessed.

  1. Love, love, love this! We don't have to be a door mat, but we MUST submit to our husband. Letting him take on the role of head of the house, of man, is so important.
