Reason, Season or Lifetime

Wow!  Can you believe it's December 15th?  I'm telling you, Christmas is just around the corner.

I want to share with you a poem that I came across recently.  It is a powerful explanation about the people we come in contact with in our lifetime.

Reason, Season, or Lifetime

People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime.  When you figure out which one it is, you will know what to do for each person.

When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed.  They have come to assist you through a difficulty; to provide you with guidance and support; to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually.  They may seem like a godsend, and they are.  They are there for the reason you need them to be.

Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end.  Sometimes they die.  Sometimes they walk away.  Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand.  What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled; their work is done.  The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

Some people come into your life for a SEASON, because your turn has come to share, grow or learn.  They bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh.  They may teach you something you have never done.  They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy.
Believe it. It is real. But only for a season.

LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons; things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation.  Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person, and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life.  It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant.

This poem has been a comfort to me.  I only wish that I had come upon it sooner in my life.  There have been times when I just couldn't understand why a certain relationship had come to an end...for whatever reason.  This poem definitely helps me to understand.  I know that the Bible tells me [in Romans 8:28] "28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[a] have been called according to his purpose."  I have relied on that scripture many times in my life.  I know that God is in control and He has a plan and a purpose for everything that happens.  This poem simply adds to the understanding what Romans 8:28 says.

With Christmas just 9 days away...is there a person in your life that you are wondering why they are there?  Perhaps you are wondering why you are in another persons' life.  Re-read the poem and then pray that God will reveal to you...Reason, Season or Lifetime.

Have a blessed and Christ-filled Christmas.

  1. This is great encouragement. It is hard when a relationship ends. But we can trust that God knows and has a plan.

  2. Very good. I really like how you encourage to use the vocabulary to pray about and discover God's plan concerning certain people in our lives. I never thought about it that way. I feel like I finally got a small morsal of an answer to my many skyward "WHY?!" pleadings.

    Thank you,

  4. Kendra...I only wish I had come upon this poem many years ago. I definitely could have used the encouragement that it offers! All too often I, too, have prayed those "WHY!?" prayers!

Walking the walk & talking the talk,
    Debi
