From the Heart

My husbands get to church pretty early on Sunday morning to prepare for service, so he takes one car and the boys and I take another car later in the morning.  As part of our morning routine, we visit the McDonald's drive-thru on the way to church.  I usually don't get anything, but last Sunday I was really hungry, so I decided to get hashbrowns.  The boys ate their food as we were driving, and I ate mine too - very quickly.  So quickly, in fact, that I made the comment that I didn't even remember eating it.  I guess I just ate it out of habit, not really thinking about what I was doing.

Do we ever do the same thing with worship?

We're at church, the music beings to play, we stand and start singing, not ever really thinking about what we are doing.

Have you ever worshiped God out of habit?

That's not really worship, is it?

The Lord says: "These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is made up only of rules taught by men.  Isaiah 29:13

God is looking for people who worship Him from their hearts, not their mouths.  We may say we love God, we may sing all the songs, raise our hands, and maybe even bow our knees, but God is looking at our heart.

What does He see when He looks at yours?

  3. This is great. It kind of goes with what I talked about yesterday. When I am not living a life of worship throughout the week, then when I get to church on Sunday morning, it seems like it is habit. I do it without thinking, not with heart because I love my Savior. I want to always purpose to worship Him from my heart and soul. Great post.

  6. I have a promise to myself and God not to worship or read ANY religious or teaching material unless I am paying attention. While some people may not agree with it, it works for me. No kidding there are nights when I am so tired that I say to God look I am exhausted and I am not going to pray just because I should when I wont pay attention to what I am saying so I will talk to you tomorrow! It is silly but it holds me accountable!
