Good intentions

As moms our world is filled with good intentions ~ we can intend to fix that really great dinner our husbands love so much. We can intend to give him a kiss at the door as he comes in from work. We can intend to treat our kids with patience no matter how they act. We can even intend on having money left in the bank after payday and our bills our paid.

But there's always something that gets in the way.

Dinner doesn't turn out right, He doesn't come home on time, the kids are cranky as soon as they wake up in the morning and an unexpected bill comes to take all of your money.

Suddenly we may find ourselves in a whirlwind of unchecked emotions, angry at the world and just wishing God would take it all away. This was me. For the last week I've been dealing with all of this stuff just getting thrown at me, I've been listening to the lies instead of the voice of truth and feeling myself getting pulled further and further from God's truth. Last night though He woke me up and said PRAY! Pray like you mean it. Pray like you're desperate. I was desperate you see. I was putting my happiness in my circumstances and not on the foundation of God's truth and love.

We are made for more than unchecked emotions. We are made for more than just good intentions. Thank God His mercies are new every morning. I'm learning I can't have patience towards my kids on my own strength. I can't look to my husband for that financial stability I so desperatley need. It's all God. He is our stability, He is our patience. As mom's we just need a break, as wives we just need a break. We need to feel Jesus surround us with His love if even for a moment and let us know that He has it all under control. Cranky children, empty bank accounts and unkept dinner plans, He has them all under control.
If we pause, and pray He will fill us back up when we start feeling empty. As a new stay at home mom I'm going to be needing lots of Jesus breaks and I'm sure He's looking forward to them. When you have good intentions but something bumps in to them pause and ask God to help you, ask Him to give you His patience and His peace. What's important to us is important to Him.

  1. What a great reminder. Good intentions are not good enough. We need to follow through when it comes to our relationship with Christ. We know HE is able to help but often forget to pause and ask Him. Thanks!

  2. Great truth in this post. We can't do it in our own strength. So we should run to the God and rely on His strength. Good intentions won't get us through.
