Lift Your Eyes

By: Jenifer Metzger

I lift up my eyes to the hills.
    From where does my help come?
My help comes from the Lord,
  who made heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot be moved;
    He who keeps you will not slumber.
Behold, He who keeps Israel
    will neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord is your keeper;
    the Lord is your shade on your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day,
    nor the moon by night.

The Lord will keep you from all evil;
   He will keep your life.
The Lord will keep
    your going out and your coming in
    from this time forth and forevermore.
Psalm 121 CSB

Life can be hard. Struggles come and sometimes we feel like we just cannot catch our breath. We wrestle and fight and wonder if things will ever get better. God, when will this end?

Psalm 121 reminds us to lift our eyes to God. He is the maker of all. He is where our help comes from. There is great comfort in knowing that the maker of all things never sleeps and always watches over me. That He will help me face whatever comes. No matter how small and simple or big and catastrophic it may be, He is there.

Friend, I don't know what you are facing; but I do know the One who will walk beside you as you face it. Lift your eyes and call on God.

Discussion:
1. Think of a time in your life that you were facing a hardship. Did you see God's hand then? Now that you are on the other side, can you see His hand now?
2. Write Psalm 121 on a slip of paper and place it somewhere that you will see it often. Every time you see it, read it out loud.
