When Your Children Ask If We Are Living in the End Times, Part 2

“But concerning that day and hour no one knowsnot even the angels of heaven, nothe Son, but the Father only."

Matthew 24:36 ESV

Last week, I published this popular post about when your children ask if we are living in the end times, and I have more to share today. I'm a visual learner, so I thought I'd share this image with you to help your children have a greater understanding.

Several years ago, I was helped by this picture while attending BSF. We were studying the book of Revelation that year, and the teaching leader had the unique challenge of discussing this book in an interdenominational setting.

Here's a helpful illustration to share with your children when they ask if we are living in the end times.

She simplified the complex prophecies and teachings in a single word picture. If you're reading this, you probably used a corded telephone in the past. Since your children probably haven't used one, you may need to pull up a picture of a phone cord for them.

Imagine a transparent phone cord with colored dots inside the cord. Each colored dot represents an end-times prophecy in Scripture, whether from an Old Testament prophet, Jesus' words, New Testament teachings, or the book of Revelation.

Now imagine looking at the cord from the top with all the coils lined up. You would see lots of colored dots in the cord, but not necessarily know where they were located in a 15-foot stretch of cord. You might dimly see a blue dot that you think is on coil number four, for example, but actually, it's on coil number 25 because you can't see the cord at its full length.

We can't see the full length from our vantage point, but God canGod sees all the prophecies all at once, and he also knows when they will happen. The prophecies are all there because God's Word is always true. But we don't know exactly when those things will happen, and that's okay because God is in full control of the cord of history.

I hope this simple illustration helps you have fruitful discussions with your childrenThis illustration has stuck with me for years, I believe because it gives me peace when I feel worried about things happening in the world. It helps me remember that God knows it all, and I can take comfort in his perfect knowledge of all things end times.
