2022 Year End Reflection Questions

By: Melanie Moore

Can you believe we are at the end of 2022? If your year was anything like mine, it may have felt a little bit like a rollercoaster - there were some high points, some low points, and a blur in the middle! However, through every second of every day, I can say that God was faithful.

As I reflect on the past year, I thought I'd share some questions that I find helpful to prepare my heart to turn the page to the new chapter of a fresh, new year. I hope they will be helpful to you too.

How did God work in my life this year?

This is the primary question I want to ask myself because we may not always realize how God is working in our hearts in the moment, but if we look back, I believe we can see the many ways God protected us, guided us, molded our hearts, and worked in the details of our lives. Let's pause and give him thanks for all the ways He worked in our lives over the past year.

What areas do I still need to surrender to God?

This one is tough, sweet friends. I wrestle with the need to control things, and I have to admit that I have to constantly remind myself to surrender to God. Let's pause and think about the areas that we are still clinging to with our tightly gripped hands. Can we give those over to God? He is faithful and can be trusted. In the coming year, what can you fully surrender to Him?

How can I grow closer to God?

I love this question because I think there is always, always, always some way that we can grow closer to God. This is not about striving for perfection, friends, or checking off the boxes on our "Read Your Bible" / "Pray" to do list (looking at myself, here). This is about genuinely seeking after God with our whole heart. What ways can you draw closer to Him in 2023? I would love to hear your ideas!

What sin do I need to confess and turn away from?

I know this one might step on toes (mine included), but we must ask ourselves what sin do we need to confess and turn away from in the coming year. Don't let that sin come between you and God -- it's not worth it! If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins. Let's confess those sins lurking deep in our hearts and start the new year with a clean, fresh slate.

How can I overflow God's love in my heart to others?

My prayer is for God to use each of us as instruments of His peace, love, joy, and hope. That may look different for each of us, and I am so thankful for that! What does it look like in your life? Who are the people God has placed around you? Let us find ways to love others in a ways that our lives point fully to the unfailing hope of Jesus. The world needs to know of His love!

Thank you for joining us here at W2WMinistries.org over the past year. We are abundantly thankful for you and pray the new year will be a time of drawing closer to God.

The Lord bless you and keep you;

 the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;

 the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.

  1. Melanie, these are such good questions to ask ourselves. I will be thinking on these this afternoon while I am baking. May you and your family have a most blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year!
