Giving Thanks & Praise

 By: Joanne Viola

This week will be Thanksgiving. And yes, much like you, I am in the midst of the traditional meal preparations. Before we all get too busy, let’s turn our focus to giving thanks.

David praised the Lord in full view of the entire congregation of people:

“O Lord, the God of our ancestor Israel, may you be praised forever and ever!
Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty.
Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O Lord, and this is your kingdom.
We adore you as the one who is over all things.

Wealth and honor come from you alone, for you rule over everything.
Power and might are in your hand, and at your discretion people are made great and given strength.

“O our God, we thank you and praise your glorious name!”
(1 Chronicles 29:10-13, NLT)

Maybe the year has not turned out the way you had hoped. It may have been a year of struggles, changes, or even loss. Perhaps for some, the year has been one of tremendous growth and success.

Today may we realize, whether we have much or little, it comes from Him alone. May we give Him thanks for what we do have, and trust Him for what we may yet need.

May we give Him thanks today
and praise His glorious Name!

As your thoughts turn to Thanksgiving, what are you thankful for this year?

  1. This year has gone so fast, it hardly seems like it is time for Thanksgiving. But we've made our plans as to who is bringing what. One advantage of having grown children is splitting up meals like this. :-)

We have much to be thankful for. Not coming from a Christian home, I am so glad God drew me to Himself. I'm thankful we have a good relationship with our kids even though, as adults, they differ on some things from the way they were brought up. Throughout the years since the pandemic started, though some things were hard to find, we didn't lack anything we truly needed. Through hard times, we've had God's grace and help. Our hearts overflow with His goodness.
