Who Are You Really?

By: Donna Bucher

DO YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE REALLY?

Recently in my quiet time, I felt lost and discouraged; struggling with the significance of my work, professionally and personally. The Lord showed me my search for validation and affirmation took a wrong turn.

My worth and identity are in Christ; I am who He says I am, which is more precious than anything I may hear from anyone.

Join me as I share a series of truths which encouraged my heart and helped me overcome my discouragement.

You Are Who God Says You Are

A Child of God-God knew you before you were born; He knit you together in your mother's womb. (Psalm 139:13-14) When you received Christ as personal Savior, you were adopted into God's family! (John 1:12) God will sanctify you, making you like Christ. (Philippians 1:6) And He will protect you and keep you as His child. (John 10:28-30)

Beloved-God delights, rejoices and sings over you! (Zephaniah 3:17) He is captivated by your beauty. (Psalm 45:11) God has lavished His love upon you as His dearly beloved child. (1John 3:1) God knows your name, and He calls you His own. (Isaiah 43:1)

Chosen-God chose you to be His before the foundation of the world. (Ephesians 1:4) You are chosen, a royal priesthood, holy unto God. (1Peter 2:9-10) You are co-heirs with Christ! (Romans 8:16-17)

Have a Purpose-God has given you a ministry of reconciliation to share with others as His ambassador. (2Corinthians 5:18-20) You are called to share the good news of Christ with your neighbors, co-workers, family and friends. (Matthew 28:19-20) You are called to love and help ease the suffering of others. (Hebrews 13:16John 15:13)

Qualified-Because God has given you a purpose, He will provide all you need to accomplish His work. (Ephesians 2:102Timothy 3:16-17) God will use the same power He used to raise Jesus from the dead equipping you for every work He chooses. (Hebrews 13:20-21) Providing you with everything you need for life and godliness in every situation. (2Peter 1:3)

A new Creation- Through Christ's work you are made new; all of the old things are passed away. (2 Corinthians 5:17-18You are now united with God in intimate fellowship; an integral part of His body! (1 Corinthians 12:27) Free to set your affections upon Him, hidden in Him where every need is met. (Colossians 3:1-3)

A Child of the Light-You no longer belong to the kingdom of darkness; but are the light of the Lord. (Ephesians 5:8) You belong to God, not this present world of darkness. (1Thessalonians 5:5) As God's light you shine into this dark world His goodness. (Philippians 2:15) Even when you face darkness and trials, God promises to light your path. (Psalm 18:28)

Protected-As God's child, you can boldly approach the throne of grace for help at any time. (Hebrews 4:16) God will protect you, help you live a holy life and keep you from the evil one. (1John 5:18)When you face suffering and trial, God will restore, confirm, strengthen and establish you.

A Worshipper- You have the privilege of worshipping the God of the Universe! Coming to Him fully surrendered; a living sacrifice, your worship honors God and changes you. (Romans 12:1-2) A new creation, you are made for bringing glory to God in all things. As you stand ready to receive blessings, love, and suffering from God's hands, you know He works all things for your good and His glory. (Romans 8:28)

Never Alone-God promised never to leave you, (Hebrews 13:5), He will help you, strengthen you and uphold you. (Isaiah 41:10) God is your peace, (Ephesians 2:14) and will keep your mind in perfect peace. (Philippians 4:6-7, Isaiah 26:3-4)God always goes before you, and will not fail you! (Deuteronomy 31:8)

Remember God's truth is the only absolute truth.

Fill your heart and mind with these truths daily, remembering You are who God says you are. You do not need to earn His love and you can never lose His love.

When others attempt to define you by your past or your failures, turn to these truths about who you are in Christ.

Which of these truths speak most to you today?

How can you incorporate speaking these truths to yourself daily?

  1. I'm never alone is the truth that most speaks to me today. What a comfort to meditate on the FACT that the Creator of heaven and earth is always with me! Thank you for the reminder.
