An Open Heart Leads to Life

By: Melanie Moore

This past week, a friend of mine underwent open heart surgery. As you can imagine, this was quite unexpected and stressful for his whole family. During the surgery, one of the updates I received from his family was that his heart was exposed and now the surgeon was going to do the complicated work on repair.

Heart is exposed.

That phrase has stuck with me all week. Of course, in this scenario, the doctor was referring to the physical heart and the need to expose it in order to create bypass grafts. However, the more I thought about this phrase, the more I realized that it can also apply to our spiritual hearts as well.

How many of us want God to do a great repair work in our lives, but we hesitate to expose our hearts to him?

We think that somehow, we can hide our sins, pushing them aside so that God doesn't really have to deal with them. Maybe we even resist giving up certain sins, so we want to hide them away in a little back corner of our own while still hoping God will give us all the benefits of salvation -- love, joy, peace, eternal life.

Friends, we must come to the realization that the first step of God's repair work in our hearts starts with each of us having an open heart.

Romans 3:23 says:

"for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,"

When we expose our heart to God, we recognize that every single one of us have sinned. No matter how good we try to be on our own, we fall short of the glory of God.

In Romans 6:23, the Bible tells us:

"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord"

Thankfully, when we expose our hearts to God, and confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins!

"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us" Romans 5:8

"if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved"
Romans 10:9

That's the best news ever! Once we expose our hearts to God, and confess our sins, he can do his repair surgery on our hearts. He doesn't expect us to fix our own heart problems first! He just asks us to come to Him and confess our sins in our acknowledgement of Christ's ultimate sacrifice on the cross. Because of Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection we can rejoice in a total heart transformation!

For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Romans 10:13

Friend, if you have any questions about how you can have eternal life in Christ, please reach out to us here at W2WMinistries or your local church. I'm praying that each of us will expose our hearts to God and trust him to do a miraculous work in our lives!
