Beauty and Heartache

By: Melanie Moore

My family and I are currently in a tough season of life. It is the season of preparing to say goodbye to older loved ones whose health problems are escalating. Each season of life has its beauty and its heartache, and I am trying to see the beauty in this season.

But to be honest, I feel like I'm mostly surrounded by the heartache.

However, I know that God is teaching me something very important in this season of life.

I'm learning to honor God with my time and to know that it is limited on earth.

I'm learning to collect memories rather than "stuff".

I'm learning that life is much simpler that I tend to make it, and that most things I worry about on a daily basis are not that important after all.

I'm learning that my relationship with the Lord means more than all the earthly rewards I could collect.

God is slowly teaching and molding my heart during this time, and I continue to press into Him for each day's lesson.

Perhaps that is our journey with the Lord -- to ask Him each and every day, "What are you teaching me today, Lord? Please show me the beauty you have placed around me and the lessons you are teaching me within the heartache."

In my own experiences, I know that my heart is more open and fully dependent upon God in times of trials. Some lessons we can only learn in the midst of heartache.

However, even in those challenging times, God still provides us with beauty all around us to show us His hand.

Perhaps that is why God gave thorns to roses.... to show us the beauty that He has created when we look past the pain and thorns.

What is God teaching you in this season of your life? How is He showing up in ways that are beautiful reminders of His love?

“God is our refuge and strength,  a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way,
though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble at its swelling.”

Psalms 46:1-3

  1. Thank you for sharing these lessons you are learning. I continue learning his lessons as seasons of joy and heartache come and go. He shows up when I least expect him. I seek him in my everyday, and sometimes it's like BOOM! There he was over there and I was looking over here. So beautifully spoken Melanie. Blessings.
