Seasons Change, but God Remains the Same

by: Melanie Moore

Seventeen years ago, I had a tiny baby. I blinked, and somehow this baby is on the brink of entering his last year of high school.

How did that happen so quickly?

I keep asking myself all the questions that I’m sure parents have asked for years. Did I do everything with him that I should have? Have I prepared him to enter the world as an independent adult? Will he ever come back after he leaves for college? What will happen to our relationship?

When I was pregnant, I read all of the “What to Expect” books on pregnancy. Unfortunately, they don’t make those books for “what to expect” when launching a young adult into the great unknown.

I need a book.

Today, I realized that I already have a book that tells me what to expect at the edge of the great unknown. God’s Word tells me that no matter what season of life I am in, He will never leave me or forsake me.

Throughout the years, many circumstances in my life have changed. Houses have changed. Relationships have changed. Jobs have changed. My pants size has changed… but I won’t get started on that.

In the middle of all of these different circumstances, one single thing has never changed in my life – God has been with me in every season. He has guided me and taught me with every breath as I have allowed Him.

God is the one true constant in our ever-changing lives.

As I look back on my years of raising my son, I realize that he is not leaving the same mom who brought him into this world. Over the years, God has taught me and grown me in so many ways. I’m not the same person I was seventeen years ago.

Each season has brought it’s own blessings, challenges, memories, and most importantly, it’s own lessons. I am convinced that there are some lessons we can only learn during a unique season of our lives.

Some lessons probably felt to Him like He was needing to pound the lesson through my thick skull with a chisel, but He is always faithful and patient to me.

What season are you in right now? Are you in a season of transition like I am? Maybe you’re in a season of a new marriage or a new family. Perhaps this season is one of caring for aging or sick parents. You might be facing a challenging season of financial woes or infertility.

Whatever the season may be, please let me encourage you with this truth: God is with you. He will never leave you or forsake you. God is using this season in your life to draw you closer to Him and teach you even more about who He is.

Please join me in leaning into Him for his steady power and comfort, and asking God what lessons he is teaching us during this time.

"It is the Lord who goes before you.
He will be with you;
he will not leave you or forsake you.
Do not fear or be dismayed.”
~ Deut. 31:8

  2. Yes! Love this Melanie! The Bible is our manual. It may not always give us the exact formula for what we need, but it always reminds us that no matter what we face, He is there. ♥
