This is the Day!

 By: Joanne Viola

This is the day which the Lord has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24, NASB)

The first thing we need to notice is Who is the One who has made this day. At times, we think more of the circumstances facing us in a particular day than of the Creator of the day.

He made the day. He brought it about. He designed it. He knows all about it. Nothing will take place in this day can take Him by surprise. May we not miss what He has for us in this day.

This is not to say the day may not be hard or difficult. It may very well be. It is on those very days we are to remember how we are to fight for the day:

“To You I shall offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving, And call upon the name of the Lord.” (Psalm 116:17, NASB)

“This is the day that I have made! As you rejoice in this day of life, it will yield up to you precious gifts and beneficial training. Walk with Me along the high road of thanksgiving and you will find all the delights I have made ready for you.

To protect your thankfulness, you must remember that you reside in a fallen world, where blessings and sorrow intermingle freely. A constant focus on adversity defeats many Christians. They walk through a day that is brimming with beauty and brightness, seeing only the grayness of their thoughts. Neglecting the practice of giving thanks has darkened their minds. How precious are My children who remember to thank Me at all times. They can walk through the darkest days with Joy in their hearts because they know that the Light of My Presence is still shining on them. Rejoice in this day that I have made, for I am your steadfast Companion.”

(from Jesus Calling by Sarah Young)

He knows it is a sacrifice during those hard times to find reasons to give thanks. He knows. We offer Him that sacrifice and we call on Him. We do not want to miss any of the delights He has prepared for us. We do not want to miss the beneficial training this day holds for us.

Our focus is not to be on “only the grayness of our thoughts” (as the author puts it above). We must remember to “gaze upon the beauty of the Lord” (Psalm 27:4b).

Today is the day which the Lord has made.
May we rejoice and be glad in this day.

    1. Kathleen, I so appreciate what you have shared - The Lord is with us not only in what we will do but in what we will not do today. May I fully release both into His hands. Thank you for that thought!
