Shift

By: Jenifer Metzger

When life is good, it is easy to see God. When things are going just as we think they should, when finances are good, when our health is under control, when relationships are good, it is easy to see God's hand and give Him glory.

But life isn't always smooth sailing. Struggles are a part of life. Something we all face. Sometimes it feels like the past few years I've been given a double portion of struggles. Anyone else? In these hard times, it is easy to dwell in the grief and pain. It is easy to focus on the trouble. It is almost as though we become blind to God's goodness and presence as we sit and stew in the struggle.

In her new book Shift, Abby McDonald says, "When we allow life's messes to humble us instead of distance us, we come closer to the heart of God." When we are in the struggle, we have to intentionally focus on God, not what we see. Abby also says, "If our faith is determined only by visible results, it won't take us very far."

Abby helps us to change our focus from our struggles to seeing the presence of God. She helps us get to the foot of the cross and see God in our lives right now, no matter our circumstances. If you are going through a struggle, or maybe you are not currently facing a struggle but are ready to equip yourself with the tools for when the day may come, Shift is a must read.
