Worship Where You Are

By: Jenifer Metzger

If we were to sit down and compare our daily planners, we would see how busy we are. Maybe you are a mom of littles and you are up all hours of the night, changing diapers all day long, and chasing kids until you think you will pass out from exhaustion. Maybe you are a woman working outside the home then coming home to do laundry, help with homework, and make dinner. Maybe you are caring for elderly parents and doing the doctor visit runs multiple times a week. Maybe you are in the middle of a health crisis yourself and going to the doctor daily for chemo treatments and trying to sleep when your body lets you.

Whatever it is you are busy with, the point is, we are all busy. Sometimes, in fact, we are so busy that we cannot possibly find time in our day to pause and worship God. We know what we need to do, we say we worship God, but our hearts and minds and hands are just too busy.

Worship isn't just standing and singing songs. Singing praise and worship to God is important, yes, absolutely. But it is so much more. Worship is an attitude. It's praying over your family as you cook their dinner, it's praying over your husband as you fold his laundry, it's reading a Bible story to your littles, it's asking your older kids where they've read in the Bible lately and talking about it, it's smiling and giving a kind word to the rude checker at the grocery store, it's taking a meal to a sick neighbor, it's turning off a tv show that is inappropriate, it's thanking God for His provisions in our life, it's babysitting for a single mom who needs a break, it's telling that co-worker who is struggling that you are praying for her, it's honoring God with your income by paying your tithe, it's turning off social media and reading a few verses in the doctor's office waiting room.

Let's be women who live a life of worship. Let's be women who worship right where we are.

It's time for Share A Link Wednesday! Each Wednesday we invite you to leave a link to your latest blog post in the comments. We still desire to connect women of God with one another and encourage each other in Christ. So grab a cup of coffee or glass of sweet tea, sit back and visit a few blogs. Be encouraged and share your own stories.

  1. I'm thinking about worship today, too--the worship that happens when we realize our great need and the truth that God has met it abundantly in Christ:

  2. I love this. It's been one of my themes that worship is not just singing in church on Sunday mornings, but rather permeates everything we do. You've wonderfully illustrated that here. Now, living it - that's the hard part, but that's what God is continually working with me on. My post this week is musing at the end of last month:

  3. This post brought to mind, Bro. Lawrence whose job at the monastery was to wash dishes. He used this time of ordinary and mundane chores to pray and found it to be the most meaningful of times. Prayer and worship - we can do both throughout our day and God will make our ordinary days, extraordinary.

    My post today:

  4. Jennifer, I love this! I want to be a woman who worships wherever I am! I am going to be more intentional about this. Thank you so much for sharing.

  5. Yes, "worship is an attitude." I so agree!

My latest post is here: 5 Links, Books, and Things I Love.

  6. Great post, thanks! My first time stopping by :) We actually have a link-up going on this post through Friday 9am. Hope you'll stop by and check it out! Free printables there as well!
