Thirsty Soul

By: Jenifer Metzger

We've all experienced thirst. After a workout or on a hot day we are desperate for water. One long drink of cool water feels like a mighty rushing waterfall that quenches our deep thirst. It feels good. It fills us.

Have we experienced that with God? Are we desperate for Him? Do we let Him come over us like a mighty rushing waterfall to quench our soul?

One thing about water is we rarely take just a sip. Though a sip is good and can help us feel satisfied to a point, we normally take a good long drink. Then a little later, we take another good long drink. And then again, and again. Our thirst is satisfied but we have the need to keep going back regularly. Our thirst continues. One small sip a day is not going to satisfy us. We keep drinking.

As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for You, my God.
Psalm 42: 1

The same is with God. We experience Him, but once isn't enough. We have to keep going back. Our soul needs more than a sip, our soul is desperately thirsty for Him continually. A sip is okay, but we need to regularly take a good long drink and then we need to keep going back for more.

Our soul stays thirsty and we need to continually drink.
