Encouraging our Children

by Victoria Duerstock

Long days and long nights can be difficult to navigate with our children.  Sometimes their hurts are physical and need attention.  Knowing when to see the doctor and when to ride it out can be stressful and emotion filled as moms.learning to trust our instincts is a challenge but somehow we manage and our children learn to tell us what they need.

Harder still are the emotional challenges that our babies face as they navigate adolescence and grow into young adults.  Many times I find myself at a loss for how to best hug away the hurts and help them know they are loved.

The truth is that without God's word as our source of comfort, our words will ring a bit hollow.  Don't misunderstand, it's important the home is a safe place of love and care, and we need to tell our children they are loved.  But more than anything to face life challenges ahead we must be faithful to continue to draw their attention back to the Savior, the One who loves them more than we can ever do in our weak frail humanness.

Bringing their attention back to the Lord will inevitably help them as they mature, and learn to place their confidence in Christ alone for His grace alone and anything they will go through in the days ahead.

As you love and care for your children, don't forget to train them to seek the Lord to comfort the hurts as He loves them more than they can even fathom right now!

Psalm 39:7 And now, O Lord, for what do I wait? My hope is in you.
