A Simple Act of Kindness

By: Shari A. Miller

"The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these."
- Mark 12:31

My husband was at a coffee shop last week, waiting in line, in his car, to get his coffee. Once he drove to the window he had his day made because the person in front of him had paid for his coffee. In turn, my husband paid for the person's coffee behind him.

A simple act of kindness goes a long way.

It's these acts of compassion and love that make the world a better place and they also show Jesus' light to those around us.

"Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience." - Colossians 3:12

Have you ever had a simple act of kindness shown to you? How did it make you feel? I know when they happen to me, it makes me feel happy and warm inside. It brings a smile to my face that lasts all day. It reminds me that God does love me and shows me in very tangible ways.

It could be anything like paying for someone's coffee, holding the door open, giving up your seat on the bus, shoveling your neighbor's driveway, visiting a shut in, taking a plate of cookies to a friend, the list can go on and on.

During this holiday season I want to challenge you to show simple acts of kindness to others around you. Take joy in the act of giving. Reach out to someone and show them that their is hope and that God's love is very real and alive. If you start a chain reaction......who knows the simple act of kindness may just come right back to you.
