What time I am afraid...

I take great comfort in the fact that God fully and clearly knows and understands me.  I see it in a thousand little ways in my daily life, in the little blessings and surprises He leaves along my path.  These little things are often things that only He would know that I have been desiring, things that only He would understand the way they fill me with joy and delight.

I also see the way God "gets me" through the little words He includes in His Word.  Take, for instance, the words "what time" in Psalm 56:3.  I take comfort in these two little words, for though I know that God's Word is full of admonitions to fear not, in these two little words I see that God knows and understands that there will come times when I am afraid.

Perhaps you are experiencing a bit of fear right now.  Just turn on the news, and there are plenty of things that are frightening. Worry, anxiety, uncertainty...it comes calling now and then doesn't it?  But, just as surely as God knows we will face times of fear, He gives us a simple remedy.  In this verse He includes another little two word phase, "I will".  It's a simple choice.  We take our emotions by the nape of the neck and make a choice with our will to place our confidence, trust and reliance in God. We strengthen the resolve of our will by feeding our minds with the truth of God's trustworthy character through His Word and through remembering the testimony of His faithfulness in our own lives.  He's also a kind Father Who doesn't mind us humbly and honestly asking Him for help.  "Help me to trust you more" or "Help me not to be afraid but to rely on You"  are perfectly acceptable requests to make of Him.

God fully and clearly knows and understands you, too.  He knows exactly what you are facing, what you are feeling, right now.  Whatever that may be, you can have confidence in Him, trust in Him, and rely on Him.  In a thousand little ways, He will prove Himself faithful to you.

    1. I was just listening over and over again to this song...
"I will bless the Lord forever
And I will trust Him at all times
He has delivered me from all fear
And He has set my feet upon a rock
I will not be moved, and I'll say of the Lord
You are my shield, my strength, my portion
      Deliverer, my shelter, strong tower
My very present help in time of need"
