Ten For Life

By: Sarah MacKinney

Several years ago in kids church we did a series called Ten For Life and each week for ten weeks we discussed one verse that they could memorize and hopefully carry them through their entire lives. Verses that taught them about hope and grace, verses on love and how to treat others. Obviously there are more than ten amazing and applicable verses in the Bible and it would take all week to list them, but our goal was to instill ten verses in them that they could focus on and memorize that would encourage their walk with God. Lately I have been thinking about what my 10 For Life verses would be. As I began jotting them down I thought, "Wow, this is really really good stuff!" so I wanted I would share them with you.

Verse One: "In God I trust and am not afraid. What can man do to me?" Psalm 56:11
Verse Two: "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." Ephesians 4:29
Verse Three: "There is no fear in love because perfect love casts out fear." 1 John 4:18
Verse Four: "For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11
Verse Five: "I can do all things through Christ who give me strength!" Philippians 4:13
Verse Six: "No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to man. And God is faithful, He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted He will also provide a way out." 1 Corinthians 10:13
Verse Seven: "Have I not commanded you, be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9
Verse Eight: "Come to me all who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28
Verse Nine: "They will have no fear of bad news, their hearts are steadfast; trusting in the Lord." Psalm 112:7 (one of my favorites!)
Verse Ten: "Therefore if anyone is in Christ he is a new creation, the old has gone the new has come!" 2 Corinthians 5:17

In these verses I find how I can resist temptation, I find that I have no reason to fear, I see His faithfulness, I find how to live a Godly life, I discover where I can go when I am weary, I am reminded that I am not the same; that He has made me a new creation, I learn that He has a wonderful plan for my life and the list goes on. These are my Ten For Life. Ten verses that I have memorized that I can bring to mind any time I am facing a trial, any time I am feeling weary or afraid. So what are yours? I encourage you to write down and memorize your Ten For Life. What are the verses that have meant the most to you? What scripture has helped you get through struggles? Write them down and post them on your bathroom mirror or in your kitchen, anywhere that you can see them everyday that will help you memorize them and will also be reminders of the hope you have and the amazing God that you serve. If you have children this is also a good way for them to memorize these life changing verses. I look forward to hearing your feedback on what you chose as your Ten For Life!

  1. Thanks for sharing these Scriptures. I printed them out to share with my teenage daughter. I put a note in her lunchbox every day with a verse on it, so now I can use these verses on the notes.
