Attitude Check

By: Jenifer Metzger

Recently our family had a rough day. We all had bad attitudes, we were cranky, and fighting was at an all time high. As my kids and I got in the car to run an errand, one of my son's Bibles was sitting in his seat. He said he picked it up to sit down and when he did, he felt God telling him to open it. The verse he happened to open to?

Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ?
Any comfort from His love? Any fellowship together
in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate?
Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly
with each other, loving one another, and working
together with one mind and purpose. Don't be selfish;
don't try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of
others as better than yourselves. Don't look out for only
your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.
You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.
Philippians 2:1-5

Yep. God was spot on with this one. Isn't He always?

Sometimes we need to do an attitude check. Is our attitude that of Jesus? Are we mirroring Him? Can others see Jesus in us through our attitude?

Today I challenge you to write this verse down on an index card or sticky note and keep it with you all day. Every time you feel your attitude shifting downward, pull out the verse and read it. Do an attitude check.

  4. "Spot on" ...you bet He is! What a powerful section of the Bible and for your son to hear God and obey. Made a difference for the whole family, I imagine. Does for me even as I think about God's Words affecting each one who reads them.
