Music is one of the fastest ways to change our mood. Think about it...when you are feeling sad, you usually will play some sad music. When you are feeling happy, you play music that is upbeat and happy. When you are angry, the music you play probably tends to be harsh and loud.
I have always said that good worship music will touch my soul quicker than any sermon. Goodness, sometimes, even not so good worship will touch my soul!
Music says the things we want to say. With that thought in mind, think about this. When we are singing along with the radio or in church or whatever, we are 'saying' the words to the song. In reality, we are 'praying' those words.
Think about this part of the song, "Oceans."
Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Savior
When we sing those words...Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders...we are asking God to help us trust Him completely and totally with no end to the trust! Let me walk upon the waters is telling God we want to walk on the water like He did and like Peter did. The next line, Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander, is the one that really gets me...every time I sing it!
If you sing/pray those words you better be ready because God just might give you what you ask for! Lord, take me DEEPER than my feet could ever wander...deeper in the Word...deeper in our walk with God...deeper in our understanding...deeper in our love for God...deeper in our love for one another...deeper in our forgiveness of one another...deeper in our ministry to one another..deeper
in our communities.
See, you may say I'm too busy to read my Bible; I don't have time to do the outreach; I can't forgive him/her; I don't have the schooling to minister to them... When you ask God to take you deeper...you are telling Him that you are ready to give Him what He wants from you. It means that before you know it you will be doing all the things that 'religious' people do. Maybe you only want to go to church once a week but you are singing that song for worship services. Yes...you are praying for God to grow you!
Don't let this turn you off of singing/praying...quite the contrary...let knowing you are asking God for something settle into your heart and then let go and let Him be at work in your life. Give Him the chance to show you His goodness!
Yes, Lord...please take me deeper than my feet could ever wander!!!! I am willing and ready to go where you want me to go!
