I Surrender All

By: Shari A. Miller

I'm someone who likes to be in control.

How about you?

When I'm in control, I feel safe and secure. When I lose control, it makes me feel anxious, nervous, scared and well...just plain out of control.

One thing I've learned on my journey of fighting stage 4 breast cancer, as well as the regular struggles of life that happen to all of us is, I need to surrender all to my Savior.

"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." Matthew 6:33 (NIV)

  1. As I've grown in my personal walk with God, I've come to realize that life is about surrendering to Him. Once I do this on a daily basis, the more at ease I feel. My feelings of restlessness and uneasiness dissipates as I realize it's all about Him and not about me.

In our society we are drilled from little on, to believe that life is about money, things, being successful, being in control and getting our own way. When we accept this mentality, the more painful it becomes when all of these ideals shatter and fall apart.

Friends, the one and only thing that truly matters is Jesus Christ. Not our desires, but His desires for our lives, not our dreams, but rather His good and perfect plan for our lives.

"And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it." Luke 9:23-24 (ESV)

When we surrender our all, for His all, our life changes. We live not out of selfishness, but rather selflessness.

When we do this, it's not for personal gain, thinking we've hit the lottery and we'll finally get what we want, it's surrendering for the fact of who He is.

Surrender needs to be an act of worshiping Him, because He is God, and He is holy.

When we change our focus and surrender, His ways become our ways, and His will for our life becomes our own. It doesn't do any good to try and fight against it. When we fight, we spin our wheels and go no where fast.

In order to maintain peace in our lives it all comes down to sacrificing our lives for Him.

"I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship." Romans 12:1 (ESV)

  1. One of my favorite hymns is, "I Surrender All", by Judson W. DeVenter.

  2. "All to Jesus I surrender;
    All to Him I freely give;
    I will ever love and trust Him,
    In His presence daily live.
  3. I surrender all,
  4. I surrender all;
  5. All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
  6. I surrender all."

If you're going through a season of unrest, and you feel like everything is falling apart, instead of trying to hold everything together on your own, lift your hands up to the heavens and give it to Him. Don't try to take it back, let it go and watch how God works in your life. He will accomplish far greater things then you could ever imagine our dream of.

Please take a moment to listen to the song below.
