Let us go...

by:  Debi Baker

"1 I was glad when they said to me,
'Let us go to the house of the Lord.'"
Psalm 122:1 NLT

Each of us have those days when we want to do nothing but stay in bed and cover our heads, right?  This happens sometimes for no reason at all...and then there are times when we are suffering from depression or hurt.  The times when we want to stay isolated from the world are the times when we should not set ourselves apart.

For me, there have been several times in my life when I just want to go buy an island somewhere and go live on it ... taking my family with me ... and never return to civilization again!  We all know that is not realistic.  It's nice to think about but it will never happen.  And that's not how we are made anyway.  The Word of God tells us that we were not made to be apart...alone.  In Genesis 2:18 NLT God said, "18 …It is not good for the man to be alone…"  And then He created Eve.

I'm not necessarily talking about having a mate right now.  I'm just saying that we, as human beings, were created to be social.  Being alone once in a while is ok, but overall, we are to be with others.  That's where I get the verse above.  When we are feeling like we want to be or need to be alone...and cut off from everyone else...run to your Father...let Him comfort you.  Call up a Christian sister to have lunch with.  Tell her you're feeling distant and you need to spend some time with others.  Tell her you need to go to the Father's house...you need to get reacquainted with Him.  Don't forsake your time with Him.  The verse basically says that I was glad to go to church.  Don't grudgingly go to church...be glad...you get to be with other believers...you get to spend time in corporate worship.  Being in the House of the Lord is a time of refreshing and renewal.  It 'fills you up' for the next few days.

We were created to worship our Father in heaven!  And when you spend time in His house...you can't help but feel renewed and refreshed.  And as a little disclaimer...if the church you currently attend doesn't fit that description...lifting you up, making you feel refreshed and renewed...because they worship the One True God only and they preach the Word of God...maybe it's time to find a new one!  We should never leave church feeling worse than when we came in.  A church is a hospital for our soul.  It's a place where we should receive healing and spiritual medicine!

"I was glad when they said to me, 'Let us go to the house of the Lord.'"  Yes, I am always excited to go to my Father's house and spend some quality time with the family!

Have a blessed day!!
