Jehovah Tsidkenu: The Lord is Our Righteousness

by:  Debi Baker

How many of us like to 'own' things?  How many of us like to 'take ownership' of something?  I know for me, I like to 'own' things but I don't always like to take ownership of something.  What's the difference?  To own something is to have possession of it.  To take ownership of something is basically claiming that it is ours.

We've been studying the names of God for a while now and today we are going to talk about Jehovah-Tsidkenu.  In Jeremiah 23:5 God says the time is coming when He will raise up a righteous descendant from the lineage of David.  In verse 6 He goes on to say the His name will be Jehovah Tsidkenu:  the Lord is our Righteousness.

What does Jehovah Tsidkenu; the Lord is our Righteousness have to do with taking ownership? OUR Righteousness!  We can take ownership of the righteousness of God because He Himself said He is OUR righteousness!  He has made us righteous through the blood of Jesus!  It is OURS!  Not only is God our healer and our provider but He is our righteousness!  There is no one that is righteous in themselves.  Romans 3:10 NLT tells us that "10 …No one is righteous—not even one."  But, we ARE righteous THROUGH Jehovah Tsidkenu:  the Lord is our Righteousness!

I don't know about you but this makes me want to shout it from the mountaintops!  I am worthless without Christ in my life.  I am not righteous...righteous means knowing what is right...without Him in my life!  And He loves us so much that He took all our unrighteousness on Himself to make us righteous!!!

Praise God!!!
