The Bread of Life

By: Shari A. Miller

"When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart's delight, for I bear your name, Lord God Almighty." - Jeremiah 15:16 (NIV)

Our generation has become one that is filled with people who move fast and want instant gratification. We get caught up with schedules, to do lists, appointments, soccer practice, basketball practice, parties, drive thru coffee runs, and the list can go on and on. Sometimes we get so busy with life that we forget the most important thing that we need to do each day.

Spend time in the Word of God.

I have found the best time to spend in God's Word is in the morning right when I get up. When we spend time reading God's Word, the bread of life, we become spiritually full and ever increasing in his knowledge. When we forget to wake up each day and spend time reading the Bible and spend time in prayer, we loose direction for our day. This special coveted time with Him, sets us on the path He wants us to be on. When we ask Him for guidance and direction for our day, we will find our days going much smoother than if we miss out on our spiritual food.

I want to challenge you this week, to spend time each morning in God's Word. Before your feet hit the floor praise him for waking you up to a brand new day, thank him for all of his blessings, and ask him how you can serve him today. Then open up his Word and get the spiritual nourishment you need to be his servant for the day.

"Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.
- John 6:35 (NIV)

  1. Beautiful reminder! I can tell a difference in my day and in my attitude when I do not spend time with the Father first thing. I need that time.

    1. Thank you! I feel the same way. When we spend time with him every morning it gives us the strength we need to face each day.

  2. Yes, His Word is actually His words speaking to us today. The Bible is the most relevant thing to read, and in its pages are life!

My church is doing a summer *Book Club* kind of thing - and we are reading "The Story." It's basically the NIV translation put into the form of a novel. Enjoying it so much! Wonderful words, beautiful words...

    GOD BLESS!
