How to Find Power When the Lights Go Out

By: Shari A. Miller

Last week a severe storm went through our city. Trees were snapped in half, hail fell, a tornado was spotted touching down, and in the end thousands were without power.

Being without power can be such an inconvenience. Lights go out, candles get lit, food can spoil, dinner can't be made and the list goes on and on. Some people may be fortunate enough to have generators, others may not, and have to wait hours, even days till the power comes on.

Life can be a lot like the scene I described. Storms hit, difficulties arise, and we end up searching for power to turn the lights back on.

When times like this happen, I am so thankful for the greatest power that we can turn to Jesus Christ. It's his power that carries us through the difficulties in life. It's his power that gives us strength to face each day. It's his power that lifts the veil and turns the lights back on in our darkest hour.

I love the old familiar hymn, 'There is Power in the Blood."

"There is power, power, wonder-working power

In the blood of the Lamb;
There is power, power, wonder-working power
In the precious blood of the Lamb."

Friends, don't be afraid when the difficult circumstances of life make it hard to see. Just reach out your hand to him, nothing is impossible with God. Reach out to him and rely on his unfailing power to see you through.

"Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." ~ Matthew 19:26 (NIV)

  3. I haven't heard that hymn for a long time, but I love it's truth. That's the power we need--in stormy times and in still times. ~Pamela
