Those Colors Look Simply Marvelous!

By: Shari A. Miller

"Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones." ~ Proverbs 16:24 (NIV)
A few years ago when I worked for The Salvation Army as a housing specialist, I ran across someone very special who looked at life in a refreshing way....let me take a moment to tell you what I mean.

One of the services that The Salvation Army offers is a food bank. Those who are in need can stop by, meet with a worker, and shop through the food bank.

One day as I was passing through the food bank I held the door open for one of the workers and a client. As they walked passed me I heard the worker tell the homeless woman, how beautiful her knitted sweater was and that those colors looked simply marvelous on her! The elderly woman's face lit up with a smile as she heard these words. I glanced over at the woman, and thought, "Hmmm......I would of never even given it a second thought to compliment her on her sweater."

The next day I walked through the food bank I heard more of the same compliments. I got to thinking that there was something special about this worker, her attitude was more than just a one time deal, it was a way of life for her, it was part of who she was.

When I asked her about it, she said that she tries to find something truly good about everyone, and compliment them so they feel better about themselves. She wanted to show them Jesus' love, and let them know they were cared about.

This got me to thinking.....what if?

What if we all adopted the same attitude as the young worker? What if we all tried to show Jesus' love to everyone we meet through our actions and words?

The world would be a different place friends. I want to challenge you this week to go out into your world and shine Jesus' light to everyone you meet. Let's make our actions and words match as we make being a child of God a way of life, for all the world to see.

"In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:16 (NIV)
