What are you Telling Others?

"Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you." Mark 5:19

Life has two sides.

It can be very hard.

Life can be full of disappointments, shattered dreams and broken promises. It can be nothing we ever dreamed it would be, and seemingly full of constant struggle just to make it day to day.

It can also be very good.

It can be full of family members, friends and ordinary riches that we never thought possible. The type of ordinary that catches you by surprise as your young one brings you a bouquet of fresh picked dandelions from the yard. Or the type of ordinary that melts your heart as your teenage son tells you how much he loves you.

Because God loves us so much He gives us a free will and a choice to which side our thoughts will be focused on.

The negative, or the positive, which one do you choose?

Focusing on the negative gets us no where. It accomplishes nothing.

Focusing on the positive fills our lives with joy and hope. It also shows that there is something different about us. When we choose to focus on the good that God has placed in our lives, we are being a living example for Him. We are showing others that there is more to our lives than just outward circumstances

Despite all the seemingly negative aspects of our lives, we can fix our eyes on God's gifts instead. When we choose to tell others of His bountiful blessings, we are proclaiming Christ with our lives.

What are you telling others?

Are you telling them about how awful life is? How nothing ever seems fair, or works out for you? God wants more from us than this.

"Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." Ephesians 4:29

Or are you telling others about what an awesome God we serve when you choose to sing His praises instead? When we  choose to look at the everyday ordinary and find God within the rubble, we are being a witness for Him. We are telling others that He is more than enough, that He is indeed all we need to be truly happy.

Follow God's command today as you "Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you." Mark 5:19

By making the simple choice of picking joy over sorrow you are planting seeds that will one day sow a bountiful harvest in the kingdom of God.

How do you make a point to focus on God's blessings? Do you keep a journal? Do you have a favorite verse that helps you?

  1. I am trying to turn around every thought to declare His Word, and who He is over my daily life... like the Psalmist. This helps to focus on He is my healer, he is my hope, he is my joy, my provider, my strength, the one who surrounds me with His favor etc. Beautiful post! Thanks! ~ Pam, apples of gold, http://wordglow.wordpress.com
