Listen Up!

Do you ever think to yourself...man I just want to DO something. I'm so tired of just sitting around existing...I want to serve God, I want to DO something...!

Today I want to share with you something so simple and so easy that you can do to be a blessing to someone else.

I'm terrible at listening. I hate to admit it but I am. My kids come to me and I'm in the middle of something I'm one of those moms that just say uh huh and ok and 5 minutes later not even know what it was they wanted or said. My husband will come in the door and I'll be watching tv or on the computer, he'll say hi and 5 minutes later I'll realize he even spoke to me at all. This is a terrible habbit and God is always dealing with me about it.

We can do that with God too...we get in prayer mode and just start going. Not even stopping to listen to see if God is going to speak back, we just go and go with our long list of wants and needs and then your quiet time is over.

You might have guessed it by now...the blessing you can give someone else your time. Your ear. Your attention. I'm not perfect in this area infact I feel like the biggest hypocrite even talking about this. But it's something I need to work on as well.

Listening.

Today and this weekend pray that God opens your eyes to the areas of listening you need to work on. Challenge yourself to look your children in the eye and honestly listen when they speak to you. Don't get so drawn down in the taking care of your children that you forget to enjoy your children. Sometimes we say NO before we even know the question...today listen to your children before even speaking back to them.

Ask God to open your ears to His voice as well, go through your day with an attitude of "Speak Lord, your servant is listening.." and then make an earnest attempt to learn from what He speaks to you.

Today listen, that's how you can bless someone else...just listen, give them your full attention.

  1. I am so guilty of this too, Mandy. I want to listen to my husband and kids and I really want to listen to God. Thank you for this encouragement!

  2. What a great reminder Mandy! I get caught up in thinking God wants us to do BIG things, forgetting that I'm called to do BIG things with the family I'm blessed with. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
