God's Faithfulness

By: Grace Metzger

If we are faithless,
He remains faithful;
He cannot deny Himself.
2 Timothy 2:30

God’s faithfulness is something I’ve been thinking about a lot recently. When your world seems to be crumbing before your eyes, it’s hard to remember how faithful God is to us. I know it was hard for me to remember that when I found out about my nephew’s heart condition. Only a month old and he was already having to go through so much. I won’t lie, it was a very hard for me to continue to believe that God was going to be faithful to us while we were in those circumstances. But my unbelief didn’t stop God from performing wonderful miracles on my little nephew’s life. God protected and cared for him, just like He does with all His children.

It's very easy to allow life to cloud our view of Christ’s character. We get angry, afraid, maybe even a bit hurt, then we allow the devil to place doubts in our mind. But the devil has no control over our mind!

So what should we do to remind ourself of God’s faithfulness and character? There are so many Bible verses about how faithful God is, about how He protects us, about His love, and so many more to describe just how great His character is! Whenever I feel the devil start to place those awful thoughts of doubt in my mind, I look back on this one particular verse. I found this verse while my nephew was still in the hospital. I prayed it so much if someone heard me they might have thought I gone crazy.

The Lord is a compassionate and gracious God,
slow to anger and abounding in faithful love and truth
Exodus 34:6

I love this verse so much because it reminds me that God isn't like us. He isn't quick to anger, heartless, cruel, or unfaithful. Often times I think that people think the Lord is faithful like we are as humans. Faithfulness looks very different for us. We aren't known for being a loyal or steadfast people. Nowadays lying, cheating, and stealing is so common it no longer shocks us when this happens. We believe that the tiniest bit of loyalty makes a person faithful. We come to think of God in that manner, we know He's faithful but don't even comprehend just how steadfast His loyalty is to us. When I was looking into the word faithful in the Bible I was shocked how many times it said something to the likes of "and God was faithful to them for a thousand generations." We can't even comprehend someone being faithful to just us, we would never be able to understand the amount of love and loyalty you have to have for someone to be able to be faithful to them for thousands of generations.

Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you. I will praise
your name, for you have accomplished wonders,
plans formed long ago, with perfect faithfulness.
Isiah 25:1

I know when you're going through something it's very easy to start wondering if God is really faithful. But trust me, God has had His plans formed a long time ago and He has formed them with His perfect faithfulness. So praise Him for how He's going to save! Start praising Him for the healing you will receive, the bills being paid for that you couldn't afford, the loved one coming to Christ! Praise Him because He will be faithful to you, even when it's hard to see.
