Spoiler Alert— Your Words Matter!

By: Paula Short

“The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.” Proverbs 18:21— NLT

Every day, we speak many words, some of which are idle chatter, while others may be deep conversations. Our words have immense power, yet we often speak without truly considering their impact. We’re told in this verse in Proverbs that life and death are in the power of the tongue. Wow!

You see, the words we speak have immense power to affect the people around us, whether for good or for bad. The effect can extend beyond the present moment and last a lifetime. A single unkind or careless phrase can inflict a lasting wound. However, speaking words of inspiration and positivity can instill hope and strength in those who hear them.

“A word of encouragement heals the one who receives it, but a deceitful word breaks the spirit.” Proverbs 15:4— VOICE

Let us remember the power of our words they have the ability to shape our lives, both in the way we communicate with others and in the way we speak to ourselves. We have the choice to speak positively and truthfully, even when it's easier to give in to negative self-talk. Speaking life-giving words can bring new hope, refreshment, and growth to ourselves and those around us.

It’s just the same with our tongues! It’s a small muscle, capable of marvelous undertakings. And do you know how many forest fires begin with a single ember from a small campfire?” James 3:5— VOICE

Let’s Reflect

We have an incredible power within us, a power that has the ability to spread hope and positivity in every aspect of our lives. It is up to us to harness this power and use it to speak life into everything we do. Let's make a conscious decision each day to carefully choose our words, for they hold immense influence over ourselves and those around us.

Whether we are speaking to ourselves or others, it is important that we strive to align our speech with what God says about us and the world around us. With our words, we can uplift others, inspire change, and create a ripple effect of love and kindness that transcends boundaries. Let's embrace the responsibility that comes with this power and use it as a force for good in this world. Together, let's make a positive difference through the transformative impact of our words.
