Sometimes, God provides a light to our path. We get to see both the path and what lies ahead.
Other times, He only provides a lamp to our feet.
Your word is a lamp to my feet
and a light to my path.
Psalm 119:105 (ESV)
I like to know the plan. I like to be part of making the plan. But let’s be honest. This isn’t always how it works with God.
In those times when I can only see the very next step in front of me, God offers two things that I might otherwise miss: 1) the opportunity to surrender my perceived control, and 2) the opportunity to trust Him.
When I can see the plan, the path, and the destination, not much trust is involved. And it lends to belief in my own control in the matter.
But when, with only a lamp, I can barely see my own two feet…
I get to offer a sacrifice of praise by surrendering and trusting – two things that are not comfortable.
“He who offers a sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving honors Me;
And to him who orders his way rightly [who follows the way that I show him],
I shall show the salvation of God.”
Psalm 50:23 (ESV)
Reflection:
How has God provided light to your path?
What are you praying that God would illuminate for you?
