He's Not Finished With You Yet

 By: Lauren Thomas

In my basement is a bench, an unfinished DIY project-piece. I had every intention of stripping it and refinishing it. I envisioned that it would make the perfect addition somewhere in my home. But the hours of messy work put into that project seem to have got us nowhere. Layers of varnish, turquoise paint, and stain still remain. Unfinished, dejected, it waits in my basement for me to *hopefully* complete what I started.

Do you struggle with “finishing”? Maybe it’s a project, a diet, a goal or dream. Starting is the easy part, but finishing? Finishing is the hard part. Can you think of an area of your life where you started something, but didn’t finish? Does it bother you? These kinds of things bother me.

I'm so glad that God isn't this way! He always finishes what He starts.

And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

Philippians 1:6 (ESV)

We can get discouraged when we examine our lives and see all the areas where we’ve made little progress, despite prayer or effort. But Paul tells us that he is sure that God is able to complete what He has started in us. So you can be sure that no matter how messy or ugly or time consuming you feel you are right now, you aren’t just sitting dejected in God’s basement. God can and will finish the work he started in you!

Just look to Jesus!

looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Hebrews 12:2 (NKJV)

God finishes what he starts. So wherever in your life you look and feel incomplete, just look to Jesus. He’s not finished with you yet!

Reflection:

What feels unfinished in your life?

How can you "look to Jesus" to perfect, or complete, you?
