Find God's Thumbprint

By: Jenifer Metzger

Where can I go to escape Your Spirit?
Where can I flee from Your presence?
If I go up to heaven, You are there;
if I make my bed in Sheol, You are there.
If I fly on the wings of the dawn
and settle down on the western horizon,
even there Your hand will lead me;
Your right hand will hold on to me.
If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me,
and the light around me will be night”—
even the darkness is not dark to You.
The night shines like the day;
darkness and light are alike to You.
Psalm 139:7-12

The alarm begins to chirp before I am ready. I hit snooze hoping to dive right into a deep sleep. It doesn't happen. Nine minutes later, the chirping comes again. I think I can squeeze nine more minutes, so I hit snooze one more time. Then, before I am ready, I hear the dreaded sound once again. This time I know I can't put it off any longer so I get up.

After a work out, I drag myself home, sweaty and wore out. I get the dogs fed and sit down with my Bible. After a precious time with Jesus, I hit the shower. There is no stopping now, the day is in full force. Laundry, vacuuming, dishes, grandbabies, meetings, writing, so much to be done. Before I know it, I am falling into bed at night completely exhausted.

You know the routine. You know the busyness.

Find God's Thumbprint

The thing about these busy days, and even the not as busy days, is we are so focus on our task at hand and the tasks to come, that we don't see God. He is there.

He is present right in the midst of your busy. He wants our attention. He wants to commune with us, even in the crazy. He is with us at ballet recitals, baseball practices, doctor appointments, the DMV, in line at the grocery store, at the office, everywhere! Nowhere you go, no amount of busy, no amount of boredom will hide you from our Heavenly Father.

The key is, we have to look for Him. We have to find His thumbprint in our day.

We need to be intentional with pausing to find God. He may be in cloud floating across the midday sky, the sunbeams shining through the curtains, the tree blowing in the wind, the kind smile of a stranger, the peace that comes over you in a stressful situation, the phone call from a friend right when you need a friendly voice, or the catch in your heart when you feel temptation creep in.

Friend, keep your eyes and heart open to find God's thumbprint each day. It is there if you just look.

Discussion:
1. How have you see God's thumbprint lately?
2. How can you intentionally pause to look for Him?
