The Greatest Gift Is Always Jesus

 By: Paula Short

We're in full swing of the Holiday season beginning, with Thanksgiving and Christmas is almost here. And sometimes, chaos comes along for the ride. It's easy to get engrossed and preoccupied away from the true reason for the season – the birth of our savior, Jesus Christ.

As Christians, we must keep Jesus as the essence and our focal point. It's up to us to teach our family what Christmas is about, particularly if we have little ones. So, if you're looking for ways to help you put the focus on Jesus this year, here are some ideas.

 Christmas Family Devotionals

What better way to put the focus on Jesus than reading a daily devotion? Here are some I found when I did a quick Google search:

— 12 Days Of Christmas Family Devotional from You Version.

— Devotions for Christmas: A Celebration to Bring You Joy and Peace

The First Songs of Christmas: A 31-Day Advent Devotional: Meditations on Luke 1 & 2

— Family Devotion: 12 Days of Christmas Devotion Kit (this looks like a fun family activity!)

Another idea for devotions could be to have each family member (if they're old enough) write their own devotion for one day. Then spend time doing a Bible study each day based on the devotion they created. This can be fun and a learning experience all in one.

Birthday Cake For Jesus

Bake a cake for Jesus and celebrate His birth just as you would any family member. But Before cutting the cake and enjoying it, get the family together and say a prayer.

Give Up A Gift To Help Someone Else.

For this one, you need to get your whole family on board. The idea behind this is that each family member agrees to receive one or two less gifts. And the extra money that would have been spent on those gifts is given to a charitable organization. There are many you can choose from.

Pray For Your Neighborhood

Get your family together and step outside take a walk around your neighborhood. Look at all the sights, lights, and decorations. And As you do, say a prayer for each house.

These are only a few ideas. But it's a good place to start; you can do many other things to keep Jesus the focal point this Holiday season. May we always remember— Jesus is the real reason for the season.

Reflection

Do you have any other ideas to add to the list?
