A Daily Choice

By: Jenifer Metzger

Each morning as we wake up, we have choices to make. We have those every day choices, such as what to have for breakfast, to start with coffee or juice, to wear jeans or yoga pants, the easier choices. But we also have big, life altering choices that we must make every single day. The choice of who or what we will serve.

Will we serve our self, our calendar, our job, our anger, our addictions, our loneliness, our pride, our social media accounts, or our God?

A Daily Choice #chooseyouthisday #serveGod

But if serving the Lord seems undesirable
to you, then choose for yourselves this day
whom you will serve, whether the gods
your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates,
or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land
you are living. But as for me and
my household, we will serve the Lord.
Joshua 24:15

Every morning, truthfully it is more like every hour, we must make the decision to serve God. When we don't make that conscience, intentional choice to serve God, other things take over. Before we know it, we are serving our calendar. Filling our hours with every thing except God. Or serving our cell phone, bowing down to every little ding notifying us of something that "immediately" needs our attention. Or we fill it self-pity, feeling sorry for ourselves because something isn't going the way we want. Or maybe we fill it with pride, giving ourselves a pat on the back for each and every little thing in our life, instead of thanking God.

Before your feet even hit the floor in the morning, make an intentional decision to serve God. Start your day with praises to Him, with reading the Bible and prayer. Then throughout your day pause for little praise breaks, set an alarm if you need the reminder.

Make your choice right now, Who you will serve today?

Discussion:
1. How do you make the intentional choice to serve God daily?
2. When you recognize that you have started serving anything or anyone other than God, how do you get back on track?
