10 Encouraging Psalms When You Need God's Strength

By: Melanie Moore

My heart has been heavy recently, and I have found such comfort in the Psalms. If you need God's strength, I pray these verses will encourage your heart today.

One thing that has greatly helped me is praying God's Word. For example, for the verse below:

“I will love You, O LORD, my strength.
The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;
my God, my strength, in whom I will trust;
my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”
Psalm 18:1-2

I like to turn the words into a prayer, something like this:

Lord, I love you. You are my strength. You alone are my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer. You, God, are my strength. In you, I trust. You are my shield and the horn of my salvation. You are my stronghold, and I cling to you.

I pray these verses will encourage your heart today.

“The LORD is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid?”
Psalm 27:1

“The LORD is my strength and my shield;
my heart trusted in Him, and I am helped;
therefore my heart greatly rejoices, and with my song I will praise Him.
The LORD is their strength, and He is the saving refuge of His anointed.”
Psalm 28:7-8

“The LORD will give strength to His people;
the LORD will bless His people with peace.”
Psalm 29:11

“But the salvation of the righteous is from the LORD;
He is their strength in time of trouble.”
Psalm 37:39

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging."
Psalm 46:1-3

“My flesh and my heart fail;
but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
Psalm 73:26

“The LORD is my strength and song,
and He has become my salvation.”
Psalm 118:14

“I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”
Psalm 121:1-2

“In the day when I cried out, You answered me,
and made me bold with strength in my soul.”
Psalm 138:3
