Being Thankful

    By: Shari A. Miller

"Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise! Give thanks to Him; bless His name!" ~  Psalm 100:4

I want to challenge you today to focus on being thankful.

My prayer time has changed over the years. Currently, when I pray, one of the first things I do is thank God for all the blessings that He has placed in my life. These blessings range from the very small to the very large, it just depends upon what is going on in my life.

When I take the time to thank God for my blessings; I find that my day turns around. Instead of complaining about my hardships, I spend my time focusing on what's good in my life.

A few months ago, I was hit with a pretty bad sinus infection, to the point of where I could hardly breath at all. It was at that point where I realized how fortunate and blessed I was for so many things in my life, including the fact of being able to breath. Have you every really thought about that? How blessed we are to have the opportunity to just breath.

I again was thinking how grateful I was; when I had surgery on my right leg last year. I had two rods and a plate placed in my leg because of the cancer that was there. I spent two weeks walking with a walker and was very dependent on others to get things done. I didn't like this trial as I was going through it, but it sure made me thankful for the fact that I could walk.

My family seen above, is definitely a blessing that I am grateful for. I am so blessed to be married to my husband for almost 28 years, and that we were able to have two wonderful children. My family has helped me through so much as I face my battle of cancer.

What about you? What are you thankful for? It's so easy to forget to thank God for our blessings. However, if it becomes a daily practice, it can turn our days around.
